GOLF CLUBS – QUEENSTOWN, NEW ZEALAND

Nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, overlooked by the majestic Southern Alps, the town was named because “…it was fit for Queen Victoria.” Queenstown is today recognised internationally as New Zealand’s premier visitor destination. Queenstown has more than just breathtaking scenery and a diverse range of attractions, it’s the people visitors find enchanting. In fact in 1998, Queenstown was again voted Friendliest Foreign City in a poll of 37,000 readers of Conde Nast Traveler, a top US Travel Publication. Queenstown first won the award in 1996.

CROMWELL GOLF COURSE
The Cromwell Golf Course sits comfortably on land similar to that of the famous Melbourne
sand belt. The combination of the expansive rolling dunes of the front nine and the more
traditional tree-lined nature of the back make for an endlessly interesting golf experience. Cromwell is a growing town with a surprising variety of activities available for visitors. The dry desert-like climate brings high temperatures in summer with low humidity. In winter a crisp white frost ensures a brilliantly sunny day in which to enjoy a round of golf on a course maintained to a consistently high standard.Cromwell’s unique micro-climate means that the sky is often clear and the course open for play when others in the area are closed.A spectacular 45 minutes drive east from Queenstown, via the Kawarau Gorge and 40 minutes south of Wanaka, Cromwell is the ideal hub for a golfing tour of Central Otago. With six championship courses, including Millbrook Resort, within 45 minutes drive, Cromwell is the centre of golf in the Central Otago/ Southern Lakes area.

MILLBROOK ESTATE
Millbrook is designed to embody the relaxed New Zealand country lifestyle – and to make the most of its setting among some of the world’s most spectacular scenery. It is a year round, recreational paradise – each season featuring its own character, colours and leisure pursuits.
Location Millbrook is close enough for you to easily access the cosmopolitan buzz of Queenstown, but far enough away to enjoy the tranquillity and splendour of the alpine countryside. The historic gold-mining town of Arrowtown is a short drive away as are award-winning tourist attractions and the outdoor activities that have made Queenstown world famous. You’ll find us just outside the historic village of Arrowtown – only 20-minutes drive from Queenstown and 15 minutes from the airport. Millbrook was discovered first by Maori and much later by Europeans, lured to the region by tales of a gold rush. In the 1860s, the French brothers John and Peter Butel from Normandy established a 450-acre wheat farm to feed hungry miners. The rustic remains of the farm live on in Millbrook’s restored buildings and the avenue of trees that still welcomes visitors just as it did 150 years ago.In the sombre years of World War One, the land around Millbrook was transformed into a tent city – a hospital for the injured Kiwi soldiers returning from Europe. Here, they were nurtured by the natural amphitheatre of Millbrook – the soothing majesty of the mountains helping to heal body and soul.In the 1930s the aroma of the bootlegger’s brew was carried in the air of a Millbrook night as the prohibition years rolled by.After World War Two the land was returned to its farming roots. It wasn’t until four decades later that a new vision was born – the creation of a resort of international standing, built in harmony with the land.
